\u201cEverything that happens in life is directed \u00a0by an Author of history who is God, and God wants the good of people [\u2026] So even if \u00a0sometimes\u00a0 it seems the freedom of human beings \u00a0leads to negative consequences, God is capable [\u2026] of bringing \u00a0good \u00a0even out of these negative situations\u201d. According to Maria Voce, President of the Focolare Movement<\/strong>, this is the greatest lesson \u00a0that the Covid-19 crisis can offer.<\/p>\n

In an interview<\/a> with Rabbi Alon Goshen-Gottstein, director of the \u201cElijah Interfaith Institute<\/a>\u201d in Jerusalem<\/strong>, the President of the Focolare Movement also speaks of the possible benefits that the pandemic can bring to the world.<\/p>\n

The interview is part of the Coronaspection project<\/a><\/strong>, a series of video interviews with religious leaders worldwide, sharing wisdom and spiritual advice as we jointly face a global crisis (here<\/strong><\/a> you can see the project\u2019s trailer, which summarizes the spirit of the project).<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are values that are more evident than others at the moment \u2013 says Maria Voce -, such as solidarity, equality among all, concern for the environment. The world will come out better from this crisis if we know how to overcome the divisions linked to prejudice, to culture, to see everyone as brothers and sisters \u00a0belonging \u00a0to the one family of God\u2019s children.<\/p>\n

This certainty is based on a profound\u00a0 trust in the human person: \u201d there is always a spark of good in every person \u00a0and you can count on \u00a0it\u201d; a person \u00a0responds \u201cbecause ( good<\/em>) is \u00a0inherent in him\/her\u201d. It is an inner conviction that stirs hope: \u201cGod is Love and loves all creatures\u201d.<\/p>\n

She continues \u201d In fact, it is enough to look around to see examples of solidarity. The efforts of doctors and nurses who try to awaken \u00a0trust, a smile, and their pain for the people they failed to save, have had the effect of \u201cedifying\u201d the patients who recovered.\u00a0 In our Movement many people were able to make themselves available for \u00a0their neighbors, \u00a0to bring them what they needed; many children offered toys to \u00a0others that were a comfort to them\u201d.<\/p>\n

At the level of international relations \u2013 observes Maria Voce \u2013 \u201cwe see examples of solidarity in those \u00a0doctors and nurses who have come to Italy from other countries to help. [\u2026] Even at the level of economic thinking, we are trying to do everything so that countries do not think only of defending their own goods but of integrating their own vision with that of other countries\u201d.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless all this does not hide the challenges that the crisis brings. Alongside the personal ones she says there are those that come from leading an international movement: \u201cmaking decisions that involve difficulties both on a personal and economic level. \u00a0I felt I had to call my direct collaborators, so that decisions could be shared, so that people\u2019s interest would prevail over all other interests\u201d.<\/p>\n

She observed \u201cEven fear should not be ignored, but accepted in order to overcome it: I would say that we should learn to live with fear and at the same time not to let it stop us \u2013 following Chiara Lubich\u2019s example \u2013 \u201cto\u00a0 remain anchored in the present. She concluded, quoting the founder of the Focolare Movement, \u201d Only lovedrives away fear, and there is no fear where there is perfect love. So increasing love diminishes fear because love helps you to carry out actions that fear, instead,\u00a0 would try to condition \u201c.<\/p>\n
