Statement issued by the President of the Focolare Movement following the outbreak of violence in the Holy Land on 7 October 2023: “Justice, dialogue and reconciliation, indispensable tools for building peace”.
On January 1st, on the occasion of the 55th World Day of Peace, Pope Francis stated in his message that “dialogue means listening to each other, discussing, agreeing and walking together.” Chiara Lubich in this passage also invites us to establish relationships of dialogue in order to arrive at true peace.
Building peace is like being on a construction site, where there is always work to be done, and we are all called to “do” our part. Peace is not just the absence of war or an abstract concept; it is something we build together, facing all difficulties and starting from our own small surroundings.
The President of the Focolare appeals to the communities of the Movement in the world to put dialogue and prayer at the centre of life and action. These are paths everyone can follow towards true peace.
