[:mt]Niżżel il-leaflet tal-Kelma tal-Ħajja bil-Malti
“Henjin dawk li jġibu l-paċi, għax huma jissejħu wlied Alla” (Mt 5, 9).
L-awtur Nisrani tal-Vanġelu ta’ San Mattew trabba f’ambjent Lhudi ta’ dak iż-żmien. Għalhekk f’dan il-Vanġelu nsibu ħafna espressjonijiet ta’ dik it-tradizzjoni kulturali u reliġjuża.
Kapitlu ħamsa jurina ʹl Ġesù bħala Mosè ġdid, li minn fuq l-għolja jħabbar il-qofol tal-Liġi t’Alla: il-kmandament tal-imħabba. Biex jagħti solennità lil dan it-tagħlim, il-Vanġelu jgħidilna li hu qagħad bilqiegħda, bħal wieħed li qed jgħallem.
Mhux hekk biss: Ġesù kien l-ewwel wieħed li xehed għal dak li kien qed iħabbar. Dan jidher aktar ċar meta jxandar il-Beatitudnijiet, li huma l-programm ta’ ħajtu. Fihom insibu l-għeruq tal-imħabba Nisranija, bil-frott li tħalli fina: il-barka u l-milja tal-ferħ. Infatti hekk tfisser il-kelma ‘beatitudni’.
“Henjin dawk li jġibu l-paċi, għax huma jissejħu wlied Alla”.
Il-paċi, fil-Kotba Mqaddsa, bil-Lhudi ‘Shalom’, turi l-armonija tal-bniedem fih innifsu, armonija tal-bniedem m’Alla, ma’ kulħadd u mal-ambjent. Illum aħna u nsellmu ʹl xulxin għadna ngħidu l-kelma saħħa, u b’hekk nixtiequ saħħa tajba lill-oħrajn. L-ewwelnett il-paċi hi rigal mogħti lilna minn Alla, imma aħna rridu nitħabtu biex niksbuha.
Fil-fatt naraw li hi l-aktar waħda attiva fost il-beatitudnijiet, għax hi tistedinna ma nkunux indifferenti lejn xulxin u nġibu l-ftehim bejn kulħadd. Biex inġibu l-paċi rridu nużaw moħħna, qalbna u dirgħajna. Il-paċi titlobna nimpenjaw ruħna biex nieħdu ħsieb l-oħrajn, biex infejqu l-ġrieħi kemm dawk tagħna kif ukoll tas-soċjetà, li huma frott tal-egoiżmu li jifridna minn xulxin. Titlobna nagħmlu ħilitna biex inkunu bennejja tal-paċi.
Titlobna nagħmlu bħal Ġesù, l-Iben t’Alla, li wettaq il-missjoni tiegħu meta ta ħajtu fuq is-salib biex jgħaqqad il-bnedmin mal-Missier u fuq din l-art jerġa’ jagħmilna aħwa ta’ xulxin. Għalhekk, kull min irid jibni l-paċi, isir jixbah lil Ġesù u b’dan il-mod hu jitqies bħala bin Alla.
“Henjin dawk li jġibu l-paċi, għax huma jissejħu wlied Alla”.
Jekk nimxu fuq il-passi ta’ Ġesù, aħna wkoll kull ġurnata nistgħu nibdluha “f’ġurnata ta’ paċi”, billi ntemmu kull ġlied żgħir jew kbir li kuljum jinbet madwarna. Biex inwettqu din il-ħolma l-importanti hu li nibnu ħbiberiji u solidarjetà, nagħtu daqqa t’id lil dawk fil-bżonn, u aħna wkoll min-naħa tagħna rridu nilqgħu l-għajnuna li tingħatalna.
Hekk jirrakkuntaw Denise u Alessandro: “Meta sirna nafu ʹl xulxin, konna mmorru sew flimkien. Iżżewwiġna u fil-bidu kien żmien sabiħ ħafna, anki għax tweldulna t-tfal. Ftit ftit bdew jinbtu d-diffikultajiet (1); ma bqajniex inkellmu ʹl xulxin fis-sliem għax konna nargumentaw fuq kollox. Iddeċidejna li nibqgħu ngħixu flimkien, imma konna naqgħu fl-istess żbalji, konna nżommu f’qalbna u niġġieldu.
Darba, koppja ħbieb tagħna, tawna l-parir nieħdu sehem f’kors ta’ għajnuna lill-koppji li jkunu għaddejjin minn xi diffikultajiet. Ma sibniex biss nies kompetenti u mħejjija sew, imma “familja ta’ familji”, li magħhom stajna niftħu qalbna fuq il-problemi tagħna: ma bqajniex inħossuna aktar waħedna! Reġa’ xegħel dawl quddiemna, iżda dan kien biss l-ewwel pass: meta konna mmorru lura d-dar ma kienx ikun faċli għalina u kultant konna nerġgħu naqgħu. Dak li għenna kien li bdejna nieħdu ħsieb xulxin, konna nerġgħu nibdew mill-ġdid u nibqgħu f’kuntatt ma’ dawk il-ħbieb ġodda tagħna, biex hekk nimxu ʹl quddiem flimkien”.
“Henjin dawk li jġibu l-paċi, għax huma jissejħu wlied Alla”.
Kif tgħid Chiara Lubich, il-paċi ta’ Ġesù “titlob minna qalb u għajnejn ġodda biex inħobbu ʹl kulħadd u f’kulħadd naraw persuni li jistgħu jagħtu sehemhom biex il-bnedmin ikunu lkoll aħwa ta’ xulxin”.
U żżid tgħid: “Nistgħu nistaqsu lilna nfusna: ‘Anki f’dawk il-persuni fl-appartamenti fejn ikollhom xi jgħidu bejniethom? Anki ma’ sħabi tax-xogħol li jtellfuni fil-karriera tiegħi? Anki ma’ min mhux tal-partit tiegħi jew iżommu ma’ tim tal-futbol ieħor? Anki ma’ nies ta’ reliġjon jew pajjiż differenti minn tiegħi?’ Iva, kull bniedem hu ħija jew oħti. Il-paċi tibda proprju minn hawn, mir-rabta li nibnu ma’ kull proxxmu tagħna. ‘Il-ħażen jitwieled fil-qalb tal-bniedem’, kiteb Igino Giordani, u ‘biex inneħħu l-periklu tal-gwerra, irridu nwarrbu dak l-ispirtu ta’ aggressjoni, sfruttament u egoiżmu li minħabba fihom jinbtu l-gwerer: irridu nibnu kuxjenza ġdida’(2). Id-dinja tinbidel jekk ninbidlu aħna, […] l-aktar billi nagħtu importanza ʹl dak li jgħaqqadna, u b’hekk nistgħu nagħtu sehemna biex titwieled mentalità ta’ paċi u naħdmu flimkien għall-ġid tal-bnedmin kollha. […]
Fl-aħħar mill-aħħar, hi l-imħabba li tirbaħ għax hi aqwa minn kollox. Dan ix-xahar ejjew nippruvaw ngħixu hekk, biex inkunu ħmira għal kultura ġdida ta’ paċi u ġustizzja. B’hekk terġa’ titwieled fina u madwarna umanità ġdida” 3.

The Gospel of Matthew was written by a Christian who came from a Jewish background of that era; therefore it contains many expressions typical of Jewish culture and religious tradition. In chapter 5, Jesus is presented as the new Moses, who goes up the mountain to announce the essence of the Law of God: that is the commandment of love. To give solemnity to this teaching, the Gospel tells us that he is seated, like a teacher. Futhermore, Jesus is also the first witness to the message that is announced. This is most evident when he proclaims the Beatitudes, the program of his whole life. They reveal the radical nature of Christian love, with its fruits of blessing and fullness of joy: true beatitude.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
In the Bible, peace – Shalom in Hebrew – indicates the harmony with which a person lives in relation to God, to themselves and to their surroundings; it is still used as a greeting to wish someone the fullness of life. Peace is primarily a gift from God, but it is also dependent upon our adherence. Of all the beatitudes, this one resonates as the most active, inviting us to move away from an attitude of indifference and become builders of harmony, starting with ourselves and those around us, by using our intelligence, our hearts and our hands. It calls for commitment to care for others and to heal personal and social wounds and traumas caused by selfishness. It encourages us to promote every effort that tries to achieve this goal. Jesus, the Son of God, fulfilled his mission when he gave his life on the cross to reunite people with the Father and restore fraternity to the earth. Therefore, whoever is a peacemaker resembles Jesus and is recognised, like him, as a child of God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Following in the footsteps of Jesus, we too can turn every day into a ‘day of peace’ by ending the small or big ‘wars’ that are constantly fought around us. To make this dream come true, it is important to build networks of friendship and solidarity, to offer a helping hand but also to accept assistance. A married couple, Denise and Alessandro wrote: ‘When we met, we had a really good relationship. We got married and, at the beginning everything was fine: the birth of our children also helped. As time went by, difficulties began. There was no longer any form of dialogue between us and everything was the subject of constant discussion and argument. We decided to stay together, but we kept making the same mistakes – there were always grudges and disagreements.
One day, a couple of friends suggested that we participate in a course for couples in difficulty. We found not only competent and knowledgeable people, but a “family of families” with whom we shared our problems: we were no longer alone! A light came back on, but it was only the first step: back home, it was not easy and we still fall sometimes. What helps us is the commitment to start afresh each day to take care of each other and to stay in touch with these new friends so we can move forward together.’
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God
Focolare founder, Chiara Lubich, says: ‘Peace, the peace of Jesus, asks us to have new hearts and eyes to love and regard everyone as a candidate for universal fraternity.’ And she adds: ‘We can ask ourselves if that includes even those quarrelsome neighbours? Even work colleagues who are blocking the progress of my career? Even members of another political party or a rival football team? Even people of a different religion or nationality from mine? Yes, everyone is my brother and sister. Peace starts right here, in the relationship I can establish with each of my neighbours. Focolare co-founder, Igino Giordani, wrote that evil is born from the human heart. He continued by stating that in order to remove the danger of war, it is necessary to remove the spirit of aggression, exploitation and selfishness from which war comes and rebuild a conscience. The world will change if we change, … especially if we highlight what unites us. We will be able to contribute to the creation of a mentality of peace and work together for the good of humanity. … It is love that wins in the end because it is stronger than anything. Let us try to live like this during this month, to be the leaven of a new culture of peace and justice. We will see a new humanity reborn in us and around us.’[i]
